This privacy policy explains how SamJenkins.com ("the site", "I", "my") collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you visit the site or subscribe to the newsletter.
Who I am
This site is operated by Sam Jenkins, based in the United Kingdom. Contact: use the contact form.
What data I collect
- Newsletter signups: Your email address, collected via the newsletter signup form. MailerLite processes this on my behalf (see their privacy policy).
- Analytics: If Google Analytics is active, anonymised usage data (pages visited, country, device type). IP addresses are anonymised before storage.
- Error monitoring: If errors occur, technical details (error type, page URL, browser) are sent to Sentry to help fix bugs. No personal data is included.
- Server logs: Standard web server logs (IP address, URL requested, user agent) kept for 30 days for security and diagnostics.
If you have a member account, the site also records which recordings you watch and how far through each one you got, so you can pick up where you left off and I can see which material is worth making more of. This is first-party and functional, stored on my own server and never shared, so it needs no consent banner.
Legal basis
- Newsletter: Consent (you actively subscribe). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
- Analytics and error monitoring: Legitimate interest in understanding site performance and fixing bugs.
- Server logs: Legitimate interest in site security.
Third parties
I share data only with the following processors:
- MailerLite: newsletter delivery (EU-based, GDPR-compliant)
- Google Analytics: anonymised analytics (if enabled)
- Sentry: error tracking (EU-hosted)
- Cloudflare: CDN and security

No tracking or advertising cookies are used.

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Withdraw consent (for newsletter subscriptions)
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office

Data retention
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe
- Analytics data: 26 months (Google Analytics default)
- Server logs: 30 days
- Error reports: 90 days
Changes to this policy
If the policy changes materially, I'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where significant, notify newsletter subscribers.
